Well. It's been a while. I've been lurking around dA, I just haven't really felt like updating either journals or deviations. Part of it's writer's block, part of it's the lack of anything interesting in my life to talk about. Maybe the two are related. :plotting: Hmmm...

I've actually finished a large cross-stitch of a black swan and cygnets that I've been working on off and on for the past two years. :phew: It needs ironing now, but it's done! Yay! ...And I started a new one. This one's just a simple little bookmark-sized one, but I decided that I'd use metallic thread in it. :shakefist: I won't do that again in a hurry. Pain in the butt to work with. Maybe I'll just save my metallic threads for backstitching. That might be an idea.

I've done a bit of beading in the time between now and my last update, too, but I keep forgetting to ask my dad if I can borrow his camera. Maybe sometime in the future.

...And that's about it.

Well, you can't say I spam your inboxes. On the other hand, you can't say I've given you anything interesting to read either. ^^; Sorry about that. I've been off battling a bad case of ennui which has caused major procrastination and annoyance to everyone around me (including and especially myself).

I actually do have a number of half-done things I'm looking forward to seeing finished, so there may be something to read in the not-so-distant future.

So, what's happened in the last month? :plotting:

I caved! I'm now on Facebook. And WordTwist is addictive.

Some of my friends and I have been working on a super-secret project. I will now reveal it to you! Check out the Australian Go Journal! *insert appropriate blowing of trumpets here* [link]
...Okay, fine. It's not so secret. But there were trumpets? You know you want to. The first issue, in pdf form, is not far away. Stay tuned (over at the AGJ blog).

Bad Musician Song May bad performance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
May bad performance be forgot,
And that bad time?

For that bad time, my dear,
For that bad time,
It'll take a lot to forget it yet,
For that bad time!

And surely we'll be fired yet,
And below the poverty line!
But we've done better yet,
Since that bad time!

You stood there and took the blast.
It isn't that I hated you,
I just don't know what to do.

I was trying to throw you off,
You would not be shaken off.
I guess that's what true friends are for,
Throw them off, they just hang on more.

They are always gonna help out,
No matter how you try to shout.
Because sometimes even you,
Don't know what is best for you.

Bittersweet Emptiness The bell rattled. A man entered the small used bookstore and library. A cold gust of wind came with him.

Molly Barron peered from behind her book to see who it was. Usually, she had very few customers at this time of night. Her father, who owned the humble used bookstore/library, worked in the back offices and allowed her to work the brief night shift.

She pushed her round glasses up the bridge of her nose. A young man, her age at least, came straight towards the checkout desk. “Where may I find the literature section?” he asked politely. His voice was smooth and simply delighting.

For a moment, she did not comprehend what he sai
Literature Lost Somewhere in the depths of time,
A paper was lost, never to find.
Rumors warred and never ceased
Of what was said on that small piece.
What was written and was it true?
Was it known to many or just a few?
Was it a poem of timeless worth?
Did it tell of treasures beneath the earth?
A faded paper writ with ancient pen
Remains a mystery 'till eternity's end.

For the very purpose of life

Every morning I go out and watch the dawn.

I would not say that dawn is peaceful or serene. Yes, it is calming, in a way, to be up and about when others aren't; to have the space to think without worrying about being bothered, but there's more than that: it's invigorating. It makes me want to run down the street for the sheer joy of running; to dance across the park in my bare feet, just to feel the grass between my toes.

The air feels purer, somehow, in the morning. I take great lungfuls of it, although I know logically it can't be any cleaner here than elsewhere in the city. It feels strangely healthy to be up at this hour (despite the fact I've been up all night, and it's well and truly time I got some sleep).

There's something strangely mesmerising about watching the sun come up. Something in me stills. The energy inside me builds up and up, until I feel I'm about to explode - but that something inside holds me fast. The result is a state of still restlessness; of calm excitement. I laugh out loud simply because I can. No one is around to call me crazy.

Every morning I find myself reminded of a simple truth: No matter how long or dark the night, dawn always comes.

---

What is this, you ask? I just felt like it.

May you enjoy your day, no matter what time it is.

Urbandictionary tag

Rules:
Go to urbandictionary.com ( [link] ) and type in your answers to the following questions.
Post the first definition it gives you.
Tag 3 people.

1.) Your name?
Amelia
A crazy, awesome, loud, lovable girl. Impossible not to be smiling when around her. She lights up the entire room when she comes in. The bestest friend you will ever have.

Sometimes known as Mia or Millie.
Amelia did a crazy dance move that only she can pull off!

(*preens* Thank you, thank you. Although I'm confiscating the "loud". :ninjaeat:)

2.) Your age?
19
To "be 19", or to have "gone 19" essentially means that something has gone wrong, is just plain weird, or is inexplicable. Derived from Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' series. Its true meaning, if anything more than a motif, has yet to be revealed.
"Welcome to the 19th level of The Dark Tower."

"The whole fucking world has gone 19."

3.) One of your friends?
Jason
The most insane guy you will ever meet. He spends most of his time with friends or playing video games. He is very loud, and fails miserably at acting tough. Usually hangs out with a Patrick. Can be very fun or very annoying.
Everyone: SHUT UP, JASON!
Jason: C'mon, bring it!
Patrick: *looks at Jason to scare him*
Jason: Yo, chill! Sorry, jeez.

(O.o)

4.) What should you be doing?
Sleeping
You have been awake for 18 hours and are now viewing this useless definition of sleep. You are very tired and your brain is not functioning at its normal capacity. The bags under your eyes are starting to weigh you down. It's 1:30am and you have to get up at 6:30am for work. Another coffee wont help you now...
Turn off your computer and get some sleep you net junky!!

(That's not true! :cries: It's 4:00am! You lie! ...And I don't have to get up at all. Suckers.)

5.) Favorite color?
Blue
The hue of the portion of the visible spectrum lying between green and indigo, evoked in a human observer by radiant energy with wavelengths of approximately 420 to 490 nanometers.
The sky is blue.

( Observer. Energy. Nanometers. Just what I would have said. :paranoid:)

6.) Birthplace?
Ballarat
A town in victoria.
its cool because Cookie lives there.
"Oi, lets go visit Cookie in Ballarat"

(Fail.)

7.) Month of your birth?
October
Tenth month of the year, and also the month of the Libra. Opal is the beautiful birthstone for October. Very exciting month. Fall takes effect, columbus sailed the ocean blue, and you can give a treat or get your azz tricked all in this month.
The tenth month of the year is October.

8.) Last person you talked to?
My mum, Karen
Karen is the perfect woman. She has no flaw. She's funny, sweet, smart as hell, and above all, she is extremely gorgeous. She doesn't let anyone push her around and she has a great personality. She has some awesome goals set and always wins my heart. Has great taste in guys. Don't listen to what the other jack-off put. Everybody loves Karen.
If you were to look up the word "amazing" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Karen.

(Damn straight. Hear that, mum? Told ya so.)

9.) One of your nicknames?
Milly
A northern irish female townie. The name originates from working class girls who worked in the old Mills.
see millies, millbag
Male counterpart spide
That milly is as cheap as chips!

Stole this off someone's journal.
...And yeah.

I haven't updated in over a month! :faint: Don't worry - I've still been watching... waiting... in the shadows... *hums* Great, now I have a song in my head. Moving on.

I really need to actually start writing again, before I forget everything I know. Besides, it'll give me something to do besides play FFXII and watch Kenshin. (As fun as that is. (Orooo...))

In other news, I have graduated. I now have a Bachelor of Arts, majors in Linguistics and Japanese. Thank you, thank you. Unfortunately, this means I have to actually enter the workforce with the rest of the world. Getting myself motivated to job hunt is kinda hard at the moment. Getting myself to do anything is kinda hard at the moment. I'm going through a 'Shikamaru' phase - everything is too troublesome.

But! I haven't forsaken my... student...ly...ness...
I'm planning to take a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course. I'll need it if I want to work in my chosen field: teaching English. Linguistics no doubt helped quite a bit by teaching me to think about English in a way I never had before, but 'ya ain't got nothing if ya don't have TESOL'. I think people are more interested in the bits of paper than they are in the actual skills behind them, sometimes. Then my common sense re-engages and my brain reboots.

So, yes - my last few months in a nutshell. Now I'm off to finish watching Kensh.. I mean job hunt. Ja ne!(de gozaru)

Over the weekend we hosted the Australian National Go Championships here in Brisbane.

We had two pros there. Two! :excited:

And yes, there was go, lots of go. It was good fun. I think the best part of the tournament for me were the games I played on the Sunday. In the morning, I played against a member of my club and got a two stone handicap. I was careless and lost two big groups, leaving me behind about 50 points. I got seriously annoyed with myself (and didn't resign like I should have. Tsk, tsk.) and managed to claw my way back up by killing one of his to lose by 18. I was happy with that, particularly against a stronger player.

That was an intense game. I maintain that it sucked away all my mental energy, and I didn't recover until the last round.

I would have won my second game, but I second-guessed my instinct, allowing his easily-killable 40 point group to live.
...In the middle of my lovely territory. And what have we learned from this, class?

My last game was against ~aguido, who I play quite a lot at the club. We both went all out, and it was nice to have a fully serious game against him.

So, yes, it was a good weekend.

...I want to be dan already.

Another journal by Kifu.
With commentary by Sarcastic Inner Kifu.

The end of an era. It's the last exam, the last time procrastinating, the last desperate study on the bus for the test we have that day.
Good student, yep, that's you.

All that's left is to put on that baggy dress and funny-looking hat.
...Your attempts at humour are epic fail.

Lecturers I will never see again, (Uchiyama-sensei! Nagata-sensei! :cries:) comrades that have been there throughout the last year, the ones that I still miss from our tight-knit Stream A classes...
Goodbye uni. We've had good times.
You just don't want to face this so-called 'real-world'.
Shush you.

The wind calls,
Change comes.
...Sappy much? This is a journal, not a poem.

Yes, so, holidays. Expect mass procrastination, random hits of inspiration, and, hopefully, some more drawings. Perhaps even fanart, given I've been going fangirlish recently.

First of all, thank you all for 2000 pageviews! It kinda ended up sneaking up on me this time too. :faint:

I've had a nice relaxed two weeks since my last entry. I have two exams left, next week, but haven't had any other work since I finished the AFHTJWD. So, I've been lazing around, getting re-addicted to fanfiction, including some crack pairings (O.o I never thought I'd see the day, but they're just so darn cute!) sleeping...
oh, that's right. There is one thing of interest. I turned 19. I'm a Halloween baby. :D (On a separate, but still interesting note, my brother was born on a Friday 13th. :evillaugh: Fear us, puny mortals.)

I got a teddy bear. He's very soft and huggable. ...And before anyone asks, no, I'm not going to name him. He'll be the one and only "my teddy bear". That'll have to be enough.

Yes, I think that was disjointed enough to confuse everyone. My work here is done.

The last week had been horrible. I had this massive assignment (essay + oral on the same topic - together they're worth 50%) whose topic I didn't entirely understand. One of the required books was incredibly hard to understand, as you pretty much had to be intimate with a number of other theories (with which I wasn't) simply to be able to tell what they were going on about; everything was couched in the least understandable academic language! :shakefist: Have I mentioned exactly how much I hate academic language?

So, yes, this entire week has been a nightmare of trying to write an essay on something I didn't entirely understand. Every spare moment this assignment was sitting in front of me. I ended up nicknaming it "the assignment from hell that just won't die" (AFHTJWD for short ). It caught on, despite its overly long name: Dad started calling it that too. :D

It's all over now, thank God. May He save us from linguistic semantics.

All my other assignments are for Japanese subjects. Nice Japanese... fun Japanese...

It was a reasonable amount of fun, and next time I'll try and convince :iconaguido: to come as well, so I'll have someone I know already to annoy. (That's right, ~aguido, I'm talking about you. Consider this your invitation.)

And I like tags, because I don't have to think up anything to talk about, so I stole this off ~meowsap.

Taggage:

What made you want to do this?
Avoiding work... ^^; Among other things.

Single or Taken?
Single

Happy about that?
There are a number of things about being single that I like and wouldn't have if I wasn't, and there are a number that I don't like. It is what it is.

Siblings:
2. One is ~damianGray, and the other lives in Canberra with his wife and my beautiful baby niece.

Eye color:
Chocolate brown. Well, that's the flattering description, anyway. I can think of others...

Shoe size:
10-12ish. Depends on the brand.

Height:
175cm, 5'9".

What are you wearing right now?
Black t-shirt, long black skirt that flows down to my ankles, (I love flowy skirts) and a pendanty thing made of seashell that a good friend gave me.

Can you make a dollar in change right now:
No. How does a $10 note sound? That's my entire wallet at the moment. ^^;

Best place to go for a date:
No clue...

-----------------------------------------------------------
FAVORITES

Kind of pants:
Long and semi-baggy. In other words, comfortable.

Number:
3, 7, and because of those, 21.

Animal:
Cats. And I've developed a "Frogs are so cute!" attitude recently too.

Drink(non alcoholic):
Well, since the juice question is below, iced teas, and I don't mind Vitaminwater now that I've tried it.

Sport:
Go. It's a sport, dammit! It is! *goes and cries in the corner*

Month:
October, my birthday month, and April. Don't ask me why.

Juice:
Apple-blackcurrent juice. I swear, I consume a litre a day just about.

Favorite cartoon character:
That's a hard one. A group, then. L from Deathnote, Haji from Blood+, Fai from Tsubasa Chronicles... there's a lot more, but my brain isn't really working at the moment.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Have You Ever...

Given anyone a bath:
Yes. Don't ask.

Bungee Jumped?
Nope. Sounds like fun, though. Have to try it once before I die. Sky-diving too.

Made yourself throw-up?
Nope.

Gone skinny dipping?
No. And I'm afraid I have no plans in that direction, either.

Eaten a dog?
Nope.

Loved someone so much it made you cry?
Yes, but I was young and naive, and I really barely knew the guy.

Broken a bone?
Nope.

Played truth or dare?
Yes. I admit I can't really see the appeal of the game.

Been on a plane?
Yep! :D Flying from Melbourne to Brisbane (and back again) and also to Japan (and back again). The clouds look so good to sleep in from a height. So nice and fluffy...

Came close to dying?
No. I've been in the hospital close to someone who has, though. It was heart-breaking. She kept on trying to comfort us about her death, which just made me cry harder. Thankfully, (and miraculously), she survived.

Been in a sauna?
Nope.

Been in a hotub?
Nope.

Swam in the ocean?
A few times. I like the pool better, though. No sand getting everywhere, no accidentally stepping on disgusting-feeling seaweed...

Fallen asleep in school?
Not school, no. Uni? Check. Middle of lectures? Check. Embarrassed myself waking up to me making a strange high pitched noise in the middle of lectures? Check.

Ran away?
Nope.

Broken someone's heart?
Yes. Unfortunate business, that.

Cried when someone died?
Yes. My uncle, a number of years ago now.

Cried in school?
Yes, unfortunately. Not at uni, though.

Fell off your chair?
A number of times.

Sat by the phone all night waiting for someone to call?
No. I can't imagine I'd have the temperament to do that, either. I'd get to the point where I'd say, "Screw this. I'm going to bed. You can wait until morning," and take the phone off the hook.

Saved AIM conversations?
Not AIM, but when I used to use MSN, I saved all the conversations.

Saved e-mails?
I save all my emails (bar spam). Only server crashes delete them.

Used someone?
I wasn't aware that that's what I was doing at the time, but again, unfortunately yes.

Been cheated on?
Not that I know of.

---------------------------------------------------------------

What is...

Your good luck charm?
Don't really have one.

New fav. song?
If I had a favourite at the moment, it would probably be "It's Not Over" ~Chris Daughtry

What is beside you?
The junk on my desk spilling over onto the floor. I should probably do something about organising all that.

Last thing you ate?
Tea. We had veggie patties. They tasted good. :D

What kind of shampoo/conditioner do you use?
Some saloon-only stuff my mum gets from her work. It's good stuff.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ever Had..

Chicken Pox:
When I was little, yep.

Sore Throat:
There are people who haven't?

Stitches:
Nope.

Broken something:
Nope.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Do You...

Believe in love at first sight?
Not at all. I think love is based on knowing someone, not just on their appearances. Therefore, how could there be love at first sight? I do believe in lust at first sight. Does that count?

Long distant relationships?
Some people seem to make them work, but I don't know that I could, personally.

Like school?
I enjoy what I study, but hate the stress and the endless plethora of assignments. :phew:

Who was the last person that called you?
*checks phone* My friend Jess from uni, apparently.

Who was the last person you slow danced with?
My (now) ex-boyfriend at my formal. 2005.

Who makes you smile the most?
I don't know. I smile pretty easily. If I had to say, it'd probably be either ~damianGray or one of the guys from the go club. Good senses of humour, all.

Who knows you the best?
Human person? Probably my mum. I have a really good relationship with her.

-------------------------------------

Do you like filling these out?
They give me something to do, other than bumming around the internet or watching movies.

Do you wear contact lenses or glasses?
Glasses.

Do you like yourself?
Depends when you ask me. Now, so-so. Most of the time I'm mostly content.

Do you get along with your family?
Mostly. We have a pretty good relationship normally.

----------------------------

Are You...

Obsessive Compulsive?
No.

Suicidal?
No.

------------------------

More Random

What did you do yesterday?
Went to my linguistics lecture, wrote and sent an email in Japanese, mucked around at home.

Hated someone in your family?
Hate is a strong word. I got very annoyed at a member of my family recently, which is unusual for me, but that's about it.

Gotten any awards?
Some.

Where do you want to get married?
Don't really care, so long as it's not knee-deep in mud. (Ankle-deep is fine, though )

Good driver?
"Driving"? What is this "driving" you speak of?

Good Singer?
Passable. I don't make people cringe (mostly), but I'm not record-worthy, either.

Have a lava lamp?
No. It would be kind cool, though.

How many remote controls are in your house?
Probably 3, in total, if you don't count PS controllers.

What was your last dream about:
I don't quite remember, because it was kind of fragmented, but I think it was about the devmeet today. ^^; Don't ask me.

When you last showered:
Yesterday, I believe.

Scary or Funny Movies?
Funny. I don't like scary movies. Purely tense ones like Signs or Frequency are ok, but I really don't like horror of any sort.

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Depends. Icecream is whatever I feel like, and lollies are for vanilla. I admit to liking my chocolate chocolate-flavoured, though.

Rootbeer or Dr.Pepper?
Neither. If those are the options, I'll take water, I think.

Skiing or Boarding?
Never done either.

Summer or winter?
Meh. I used to say winter, because you can rug up against the cold, but you can't rug down against the hot, but I don't really care so much now.

Silver or Gold?
Depends on the stone that goes with it. For example, amethyst goes well with silver, I think, but emeralds with gold. (Go the green and gold! :D)

Diamond or pearl?
Diamonds, I guess. Much of a muchness, though.

Sprite or 7up?
Probably Sprite.

Coffee or sweet tea?
Tea. Or hot chocolate if it's on offer. I don't like coffee at all.

Phone or in person?
In person, definitely. I have trouble speaking to people most other ways. dA seems to be oddly fine, though.

Are you oldest, middle or youngest?
Youngest.

------------------------------------------------
Today did you...

Talk to someone you liked:
I met a few new people I liked, if they count. If you mean romantic-liked, then no.

Buy something:
Lunch. Chips and a bottle of fresh apple and raspberry juice. Was very yummy. :D

Get sick?
Nope.

Talked to an ex?
Nope.

Miss someone?
Yeah... Someone I haven't met (yet)...
________________________________________ ________

Last person who....

Slept in your bed?
Oo, me! Me! Pick me!

Saw/heard you cry?
I'm not sure. I try not to cry in front of people normally, but I don't remember who the last person was.

Made you cry?
Oi, oi, this is a bit personal, isn't it?

Went to the movies with?
My family. We did a double and saw Wall-e (awesome) and the new Mummy movie (which I thought was kinda lame)

Said "I Love You"?
One of my parents. Mostly likely mum.

Do you have a crush on someone right now?
Nope.

What book are you reading now?
Books. Plural. How to Write Fiction, Captivating, Voice & Style, and Proven Guilty (a Dresden novel).

Future KIDS names?
I like J names. Jessica, Jason, Justin. I don't know why.

Do you sleep with a stuffed animal?
I wish I did. I want a teddy. *pretends to sulk*

Favorite Location?
My bed. Sweet sleep...

Have you ever liked someone you didn't have a chance with?
Ah, high school...

Song that's stuck in your head right now?
None. So far. :paranoid:

Have you ever gotten beat up?
Nope.

Have you ever been on radio/TV?
Nope. Been in the newspaper, though. (But only the small local one.)

Ever liked someone, but thought they never noticed you?
Ah, high school...

Are you too shy to ask someone out?
I don't know. I used to be, but I'm a lot better now than I was then.

Dogs or cats?
Cats.

Favorite Flower?
All except daisies and sunflowers, that type of thing.

Have you ever fired a gun?
No. I don't intend to, either.

How many pillows do you sleep with?
Just one. I have two, but it feels funny to use them both at once.

Who are you missing right now?
No one in particular.

Well that ended up being a massive effort... :phew:

Err... blue? Calm blue oceans, calm blue oceans :D

6. How many pageviews do you have right now? What's your goal?
I have 1,616. My goal... Currently? 2,000. My future goal? To take over the (dA) world! :evillaugh:

7. Everyone's considered leaving DA once or twice. Have you? Why?
Not really. I guess I'm still new enough that it probably hasn't kicked in yet.

8. What deviant do you admire? Is it because of their art, or their personality?
I admire `Cataclysm-X and =D17rulez for their pencil drawings. They seem like nice people, but I haven't actually spoken to either of them.

9. Tell us about a noob you've helped out.
Well, I don't know that I have. ^^; Sometimes I go through the new deviations list and comment on some new people's stuff, and sometimes, if I notice they're new, I'll greet them on their page, but other than that...

10. What does your username have to do with you? Is it a combination of your favorite things, or a character of yours?
The username was originally created for KGS, and yes, it's a combination of dance and go. A kifu is a record of a go game (in Japanese), and I was imaginatively referring to the act of studying lots of them as dancing through them. Hence, Kifudancer.  I have an avatar that's based on it, too, actually. It's on my KGS account.

11. Tell us your favorite animal and why.
Umm... cats? Snow leopards in particular are pretty cool, but then frogs are pretty cute, too.

12. Some people say that they can remember people better if they associate them with an animal or make up a rhyme. Make one for yourself.
Talking, laughing, having fun,
Schoolgirl giggle, she's the one.

13. I can speak bits and pieces of different languages. What about you? What are they?
I'm learning Japanese at the moment, so that. Bits and pieces of greetings/yes+no words from various languages, basic Korean if I go look up those old notes from that one semester I took, and the important phrases in French, like: Je suis un poisson. I am a fish.

14. How do you feel about your art? Is it where you want it to be, or are you improving?
I am improving, but :sing: :music:It's got to be~e~e~e, perfect!:music:

15. Do you use copics, prismacolours, or any other type of marker?
Nope. For my type of art, you either need a set of graphite pencils, a sketchbook and a reference, or a pen, paper and imagination.

16. Wow! Your avatar is adorable! Where'd you get it? And what exactly is it?
I don't remember where I got it now. Somewhere off the internet years ago, when I still used MSN.  I think it's the character off Fruits Basket, Hanajima Saki (it's been so long, I had to look that up.).

17. Was this an interesting tag, or are you bored to pieces?
:shrug: Some questions were more interesting than others. At the moment I'm thinking about what I need for tomorrow, and the work I should be doing now...^^;

I found this on some random person's journal, and they said anyone who wanted to do it could, so . It seemed fun.

The band that I chose was good ol' DC Talk. They're still awesome. Some of the song titles I chose don't fit as well as I'd like, but hey, they were the best ones available.

What Have We Become

Anyone can take it if they want to do it. I've decided I don't like tagging people, for some reason.

On another note, I've been doing a little bit of research on oral cultures. Apparently, it's often part of such a culture that people have these sort of "insult wars", where they have this insulting banter thing going (think "Your momma is..." "Well, your momma is..." type of thing). I found that really interesting. What's more interesting is the parallels some people are drawing between the internet's "hypertext" (eg, chatting, forums, dA comments) and internet flaming, and those oral cultures.

Just something I found interesting.

So, I made a wordspill! Finally. It's due to this one week of "holidays" that we have now.

I say "holidays" because they're not, really. I've had to go in to uni every day anyway, for research and assignments, etc. In my lunch breaks I've been writing heaps, and reading heaps, so it's been good in way. I have the option of taking in sketches to one of my exams instead of photos (we have to write something on it in Japanese), so I'm actually considering doing some drawing tomorrow (whether or not it'll happen is another thing entirely).

I tell you what, though, it's somewhat relaxing to not have to run off to class all the time. This might sound awful, but it's also a bit of a relief to not to have to worry about meeting friends, or having to chat with them over lunch. It's not that I don't enjoy spending time with them, it's just nice to have a bit of a break to myself every now and then.

Yes, so this has been another episode in the not-so-epic series entitled "The Life of Me".

Edit: Ah, yeah, sorry for spamming your inboxes, but I realised that I accidentally sent this out blank the first time round. ^^; The enter button collided with my finger. I was just minding my own business, I swear...
  • Mood: Distracted
  • Listening to: Simply ~Pillar
  • Reading: Limyaael's fantasy rants (still)
I was doing some work in the uni library yesterday and I was really quite tired, so I was getting distracted. The product of this distraction: A list! And one small lonely thing out by itself. So, let us begin.

You know you've been spending too much time on the computer when...

...you're writing by hand and briefly
wonder at how you spelled a word,
before calmly moving on with the
thought, "No, it's okay. If it was
wrong, spell-check would have caught
it."

And now the list. (And this probably mostly works for students of other languages too.) I've included romaji for people who know a little, but don't read kana/kanji. (Whoever you are)

You know you've been studying Japanese too long when...

...you automatically open your novel
from the right.

...there's a short pause between
someone's question and your response
because you have to translate the
thought back into English.

...you catch yourself using "ええと"
(eeto) and "あの" (ano) instead of "umm".

...you only realise what language you
just used when monolingual speakers
look at you funny.

...you automatically add 先生 (sensei)
onto the end of your teacher's name,
even when speaking to monolingual
English speakers, and it feels weird
and just plain rude to omit it.

...you write notes that completely
torture both languages. eg, 月曜日までに
LING2000のworksheetをcomplete! Completeし
なければ、Amyの partyにgoできない
(getsuyoubi made ni LING2000 no
worksheet o complete! Complete
shinakereba, Amy no party ni go
dekinai) Trans: Complete the worksheet
by Monday! If you don't, you can't go
to Amy's party.

...it's a relief to be around other
bilingual people, because you're not
censoring/translating half of what you
say, and you can get away with hybrid
sentences (much like the one above,
except that's an extreme example).

...you bemoan the fact that your
listening is terrible, only to realise
that your teacher barely uses English
in the classroom.

...you have enough points to make a
list like this

...only one of these points is not a
real-life example.

I stole this from ~GuardienOfThePyre's journal, just 'cos. I'm in a bit of a whimsical mood, so you'll have to forgive the length.

1.) When you're home alone, do you still close the door when you use the restroom?
There's something nice about cosy rooms. When the door's open, you can almost hear the emptiness of the house. Close the door and keep the emptiness out. :D

2.) If you have to go grocery shopping, would you rather go alone or with someone?
Alone is quick... together is more fun... alone provides lollies ("candy") and chocolate... together helps me save money... Whichever's good

3.) It's your friends birthday, do you buy them a gift even though they didn't buy you one for yours?
Of course. Not only do you get the joy of giving and making them happy, you also subtly encourage them to give you one next year.

4.) You win the lottery. What do you do?
Well... Heh. My (immediate) family gets half, or more if they need it. My friends get a thousand each. (in ~aguido's case, instead a Kaya go board with legs and good quality stones) Some into charities, some to buy the go club a building in the city (they can do without the private jet for now), some to set me up with whatever I need, some to stash in case of emergency. Or, alternatively, all of it to whatever God puts on my heart for. I gave Him everything I am and have, so He has final say.

5.) Do you like your music loud or at a reasonable level?
Loud enough to hear past the blood rushing through my ears when I'm dancing. Loud enough to disappear inside, as strange as that may sound, but not so loud that it blasts out your eardrums.

6.) Are you a beach person or a snowy mountain person?
A swimming pool in a Brisbane summer person? Is that an option?

7.) When do you prefer to take a shower, morning or night?
Night, mainly. Morning makes it feel like I'm wasting daylight. Or whenever I feel I really need one. Or need some time alone briefly.

8.) Can you watch scary movies alone?
I can't watch them with people. I don't want to watch them, even with people. What's the point of scaring yourself?

9.) Soft bed or firm?
Medium.

10.) Would you rather stay home all day or be out and about?
Home. Rest. Sleep. Sweet sleep of life.

11.) What's one of your worst memories?
The bad ones are all about the same. Who cares about the bad memories? Now, there's this other stack over here you might be interested in...

12.) Do you like to keep the peace or be confrontational?
"Blessed are the peacemakers"...

13.) Are you more likely to be with a large group of people or a few close?
A few close friends.

14.) What are your plans for October?
Study. Exams. Enough said.

15.) If money were not a problem, where would you like to live?
Home is where the heart is. And I'm not trying to just spout clichés, either. I really think I could live anywhere if my family was there, or God told me to go there. Australia will always hold a special place in my heart, though.

16.) What is your ideal profession?
Being paid to be a worshipper, through dance, through song... alternatively, writing for a living might be ok. Translating is kinda fun, although I don't know about the quality of mine.

18.) What is one fear that you can't seem to overcome?
"We are more than conquerors though Christ Jesus." There is nothing I cannot not overcome. (Yes, I truly believe that)

19.) Are you good at math?
I got straight As at school, but it's been a while since then.

20.) What's stashed under your bed?
An empty plastic packet off a set of bedsheets, an empty shoebox, my old second-hand Barbie house from when I was little, and more dust than you can shake a fish at. :shakefish:

21.) Is there anyone that you regret meeting?
Live and learn. If I hadn't met the people I've met, then I would have made the same mistakes with others, probably.

22.) In the opposite sex, where should their piercing(s) be?
Their ears if they must. Elsewhere seems almost... well, "tacky" may be the wrong word, but it's the one coming to mind. Ultimately, it's their choice, but I personally don't think it's a good look.

23.) Would you rather have roommates or live alone?
I've never lived alone, so I don't know what it's like, but I imagine I would prefer to live with people.

24.) Do you like any of your friends a little more than just a friend?
No. Don't like anyone that way at the moment.

25.) Do you like to drive.
I have my barely-used learners. Does that count at all?

26.) Ever juke a friend at JukePix.com?
Never heard of it.

27.)If you found out that you were going to be a parent, what would you do?
Wonder how it happened. Other than that, start buying baby clothes and becoming clucky.

28.) Do you give money to homeless people when they ask?
Not even homeless people ask money from a student...

29.) A weekend in Las Vegas or Key West?
Neither. I'd rather travel around Europe or Asia, to be honest. I like other languages. 大好きだよ。

30.) When you go to the store, do you have a list or just buy random things?
Both? I like to know what I have to get, but then lollies are never on the list.

31.) What do you wear to sleep in?
Whatever works for the season.

32.) You have three months left to live, what do you do?
Continue life, paying extra attention to things that are lasting - relationships with friends and family, spending entire days with God. Three months, hey? That would be somewhat relaxing, actually. It wouldn't matter if I failed my course.

33.) You're having a bad day, what's one thing that can make your day better?
Random people doing small nice things for me. Like that kid a year or two ago that gave up his seat to me in the bus, just because he wanted to.

34.) What's worse: tanning bed or sun rays?
Tanning bed - it needs money. Sun FTW!

35.) Is there anything you would change about your body if you could?
Nice skin, ultra-healthy hair, 20-20 vision... nothing major.

37.) Is there anything that you should be doing right now?
Going to bed early. :sleepy:

38.) If there was a way to know when and how you're going to die, would you want to know?
No. I'd feel like I have to get it all together before the date comes, so I'd be getting more and more stressed that I didn't the closer it got. Better to not know and go peacefully, knowing there's not much more I can do at that stage.

39.) What is your favorite breakfast food?
Apple-blackcurrant juice. It's not technically breakfast, since I drink it at all times of the day, *eyes recently drained glass sitting on desk* but I do always drink it then, so...

40.) Your phone rings at 4am, who do you expect it to be?
Wrong number.

On a less self-depreciating note, I really like the idea of this challenge. I think it'll be kinda like wordspilling, with more themes. I'm really going to need that infinite time limit, though.

I was thinking. (Good start, you say, I hope this isn't an isolated event.) I was thinking I should make a list, entitled "Odd things I have done". It seems to me I certainly do enough in one day.

Example entries might include:
"I have done various two-step dances in public, more than three times in a day." (And done them well, I might add.)

"While attempting to plug my headphones into my MP3 player, I have tried to plug them in my ear." (I'm not sure my brain had enough power in that moment to make them work at all, though...)

"I have talked with a friend about the joys of using invisible guard dogs as opposed to ninja guard mice."

I lean towards ninja mice, myself.

And that's your dose of randomness for the day.

Wow. I have over 1000 pageviews. It kinda ended up creeping up on me. Thanks everyone! (Thank you linesmen, thank you ball boys.) I appreciate it.

About the tag, I meant post it earlier, but uni tends to get in the way of a lot of things. Still, here it is.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Put your music player (iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc) on shuffle.
2) Put in whatever songs that comes up in the question.
3) No cheating!
4) Tag 5 people. (I'm not going to tag anyone. Anyone who wants to do it, feel free.)

I stole this off ~meowsap's journal. It looked like fun, so... it was, although the characters are from three very different stories, so the power levels are very different.

So, let the insanity begin!

Choose 10 of your OC's. Or ten of your favorite people.(like friends, family, celebrities, Anyone you think is cool.) But you can't chose yourself.

1: Keiran
2: Lir
3: Hesral
4: Isaac
5: Chris
6: Sanar, The Eldest
7: Zarras
8: Gyen
9: Dr. Williams
10: General Hayes
(Why are there only two girls on this list?)

1) 4 invites 3 and 8 to dinner at their house. What happens?

Given Isaac and 5, Chris, are identical twins and live together, I can imagine general hilarity ensues when Chris meets Hesral. They would make quite a pair. They'd encourage each other to greater heights of humour. Gyen would be thoroughly amused by it all, gracing the room with big hearty guffaws. Isaac would be sitting still, smiling quietly to himself, but not getting involved in any way.

2) 9 tries to get 5 to go to a strip club.

Williams? No, it's more likely to be the other way around. Chris would be dragging Williams out of the lab, not telling him where they were going, just so that he could laugh at Williams' horrified reaction.

3) You need to stay at a friends house for the night. Do you choose 1 or 6?

I'd be too scared of offending Sanar. She probably wouldn't want me in her home, anyway. Keiran kinda sleeps beneath the stars most times, but at least he'd let me share his fire without too much fuss. He'd also protect me if we were attacked.

4) 2 and 7 are making out. 10 walks in...Their reaction?

Lir and Zarras? ^^; Well, given that Zarras is actually trying to kill Lir, I imagine the scene Hayes walks in on would be one of Zarras attempting to strangle her.  Hayes would probably order Zarras to "stand down" or he'll shoot him. Something Zarras would promptly ignore. If they were actually making out, then Hayes would walk in, spot them, say "Oh, excuse me." then mutter to himself about young people nowadays as he left.

5) 3 falls in love with 6. 8 is jealous. What happens?

Well, given Sanar and Hesral are bondmates anyway, there'd be very little Gyen could do. Not to mention Sanar would rip him limb from limb if he tried to do anything to Hesral. She wouldn't even break a sweat. Gyen probably couldn't catch Hesral anyway, given he'd just shift away.

6) 4 jumps you in a dark alleyway. Who comes to your rescue? 10, 2 or 7?

Well, it seems kind of out of character for Isaac, but they do say you should watch out for the quiet ones. Out of the choices, I'm not sure who would. ^^; Lir might, but she'd want to be well compensated later. Zarras would walk straight past; he wouldn't care. Hayes wouldn't really last in a fight, although it would offend his sense of what's right in the world to see a young man attacking a young woman, so he'd probably try. Maybe he could radio in some backup for me.

7) 1 decides to start a cooking show. 15 minutes later what is happening?

 Keiran wouldn't know what to do with a pot if it jumped up and hit him in the face. I can imagine some orange or pink sludge oozing out of the pot and achieving sentience while Keiran raised an eyebrow in silent amusement.

8) 5 is in a car crash and is critically injured. What does 9 do?

Errr... if Chris had managed to pull his 'drag off to the strip club' prank, then I can imagine Williams giving him a third arm or something. Or using him in the latest series of experiments. If not, then lucky Chris. He gets the one human person on the list who'd have a clue what to do if someone was injured.

9) 3 has to marry either 8, 4 or 9. Who do they chose?

Hesral would refuse point-blank. He's straight, not to mention bonded to Sanar. He's pretty loyal to begin with, and you don't want to go against Sanar.

10) 7 kidnaps 2 and demands something from 5 for 2's release. What is it?

Aside from the whole Zarras trying to kill Lir thing, if he kidnapped her and demanded ransom from Chris, he would be asking for Chris to fetch Keiran so that he could kill Lir in front of him. But it's far more likely he would just kill Lir while he had the chance.

11) You get to meet either 1 or 6. Who do you chose?

Keiran ftw! Sanar is scary... And it would be cool to quiz Keiran on his past, what it was like being a warrior in the 17th century, ect. (True, Sanar is older still, but she'd be too hazardous to my health.) He may not answer me at all, but at least he wouldn't kill me. If I badger him enough, he might tell me just to shut me up.

12) 10 challenges 4 to a chariot race. Why?

Because Hayes wouldn't be able to beat him any other way? Although Isaac is probably the sort of person that animals like, so you never know.

13) Everyone gangs up on 3. Does 3 have a chance in hell?

With Zarras, Keiran and Lir against him? He might survive, but only if Sanar comes to his rescue. If she's not around at that point, bye bye Hesral. Keiran and Lir would be able to follow him if he shifted. All the others are only human, so they wouldn't be much of a threat.

14) Everyone is invite to 2 and 10 wedding except for 8. How do they react?

Gyen raised Lir, so he would be phenomenally hurt, but hide it behind a gruff "It doesn't matter, I'm not your real father" exterior. Hayes would probably annoy Lir too much anyway, and he wouldn't approve of her 'occupation' as a thief.

15) Why is 6 afraid of 7?

Sanar? Afraid of Zarras? Try the other way around. Everyone's afraid of Sanar, except maybe the other Elders, who probably still regard her with a fair bit of respect. You don't last 2,800 years in that sort of society without being scary. Zarras, on the other hand, is just an upstart young'n of about 500.

16) 10 gathers everyone around to tell them a fairy tale. How does it go?

Hayes would tell war stories. Williams would get bored and start planning how to integrate an off button for the speech centers into the human genome. Sanar would listen in silent respect for stories of fallen warriors, as would Keiran. Zarras would be sitting in sullen silence because Sanar would demand that he shut up and listen, rather than attacking Keiran or Lir. Hesral would sit, very solemn at the thought of people dying so easily, Chris would be drawing things in the dirt because he's restless, Lir would be leaning against something for a snooze (making sure that her purse is well secured) and Isaac would probably be listening quietly, even though it wouldn't really interest him. Gyen would probably be working out a way to steal Lir's purse and teach her how to defend against it later, although part of him would be listening in case he heard any useful information.

17) 1 arrives late for 2 and 10's wedding. What happens? And why are they late?

Keiran's late because he stopped to destroy a couple of acres at the thought of someone like Hayes trying to marry his bondmate. Lir's disappointed Keiran can't be happy for her, and Hayes is employing a 'strategic retreat' and edging towards the door and away from the nice angry vampire.

18) 5 and 9 get roaring drunk and end up at your house. What happends?

Williams would try to talk my ear off about his work and why its so important, and why he's so important to the project, they need him, and all that... Chris would hit on me. He would normally just casually flirt, but he'd be coming on strong if he was drunk. Bit of a skirt chaser, Chris is.

19) 3,8,6 and 4 all go to the zoo for 8's brithday party. How does it go? What presents do they get 8?

Sanar would be thinking about why the humans feel the need to exhibit their food in cages, and wouldn't bother with a present. She would like the tiger exhibit, particularly if they were being fed. Hesral would interview Lir beforehand so that he knew what to get, and would give Gyen a set of lock-picks or something shiny. He would probably join Sanar near the tigers, but would find the koalas and kangaroos more interesting because they're unusual. Isaac would wish Gyen a happy birthday, apologise that he didn't have something nicer, and give him something generic. Chocolates, maybe. Isaac would like the exotic animals, and maybe the sea creatures. Gyen would brush off Isaac's comments, but accept all things given him. He would feel an immediate affinity with the bears.

20) Everyone gets together and start protesting something outside of your house. What are they protesting? What do you do?

"Why aren't any of our stories written?"~everyone. "Why don't I get my revenge on Keiran?"~Zarras. "Why aren't I getting paid for this?"~Lir. I'd leave them there, but then either Sanar or Zarras would snap after a while, and kill me so that they could get a move on with their lives. That means I'd have to sit down and write the stories, like they wanted. Well that, pay Lir for protesting, and then pay her some more to drag Keiran in to protect me from Zarras.

21) 9 murders 2's best friend. What does 2 do to get back at them?

Putting aside for the moment that Williams couldn't kill Keiran if he tried, Lir would seek him out and take one of two options: if she's feeling merciful (or he has a reasonable amount of money in his pockets) she'll just kill him. If not, she'll disembowel him and cut off his hands and feet. Then she'd leave him to live out the rest of his life like that.

22) 6 and 1 are in mortal danger. Only one of them can survive. Does 6 save themselves or 1?

Sanar would save herself. Too bad about Keiran, but she can find others to do that job.

23) Which one of them is most likely to fail at life?

Williams. He's too nerdy and full of himself. He doesn't really have any friends. Married to his work.

24) 5 is trapped in a cave. 10 comes to rescue them. What happens?

Hayes turns the rescue into a precise military operation while Chris watches, yells "Get me out!" every so often, and, if he's not in critical danger or injured, rolls his eyes at the whole thing when he thinks no one is watching.

25) 3 starts a day camp. What happens?

I can imagine Hesral getting along well with little kids. He'd probably have them eating out of his hand in no time flat. He'd be a really good teacher, too.

26) 4,6, and 7 are doing the Hokey-Pokey. 8 walks in. What happens?

Isaac, Sanar and Zarras. The three least likely to be doing the Hokey-Pokey. Gyen blinks, guffaws and walks out again. Zarras would be thinking about killing Gyen for seeing it, and Sanar would be amused at Zarras' humiliation. Isaac probably would have been put up to it by Chris. Either that, or it's Chris impersonating Isaac (identical twins).

27) 1 starts to write a fan-fiction where 9 and 10 are going out. What is 2's reaction?

Lir would find it hilarious that Keiran was writing fanfiction at all, let alone slash. Hesral would probably pay her to burn it. Keiran wouldn't miss it at all. In fact, he'd be wondering what on earth possessed him to write it in the first place. Williams would be horrified if he saw it, and Hayes would think about dropping a missile on the author, if it wasn't an abuse of his authority.

28) 7 makes an apple pie. Is it any good?

Zarras would only have slightly more of a clue than Keiran. He'd probably forget the apples and put in whatever came to hand instead. An entire deer, for example. Then he'd get frustrated he couldn't do it and throw the whole thing at someone. Preferably Keiran.

29) 8 and 3 go camping. For some reason they forget to bring any food. What do they do?

Hesral forages capably. Gyen would go out, find the nearest civilisation, steal something, sell it and bring back food with the money. If there was no civilisation, he would laugh, somewhat embarrassed, and accept what Hesral offered.

30) While they are camping, they run into The Blair Witch. What do they do? (If you haven't seen that movie pretend they ran into the Boogyman or something like that instead.)

I'm assuming this is still 3 and 8 camping. Hesral would provide a distraction while Gyen ran for it. When Gyen was clear, Hesral would simply shift away.

31) The quiz is over. What does everyone go to do now?

Gyen goes back to his home to resume his 'work', and Lir, Hesral and Keiran continue their quest. Sanar also goes back to her home and the council of Elders. Zarras begins again on his revenge (this boy needs a hobby, seriously). Chris and Isaac go back home, Chris trying to get Isaac to agree to some scheme of Chris' all the way there. Williams goes back to the lab because he figured out how to make the modifications he wanted, and Hayes goes back to base to cancel Williams' funding. After all, he's really the only person he knew out of the whole fiasco, so that must mean he was somewhat responsible.
